La commune de Galim est située dans la Région de l’Ouest du Cameroun, Département des Bamboutos.
La commune de Galim tire probablement son nom de l’Adamaoua, où un monarque musulman du nom d’ALIM résidait. L'expression Fulfulde "MI DO YA GALIM" signifie "Je vais chez ALIM" ou "Je vais vers ALIM". Avec le temps, cette expression s’est contractée en "GAL ALIM", donnant ainsi naissance au nom GALIM.
